Hiking boots vs. trail runners for backpacking!
Unhappy feet can make a backpacking trip miserable. When we first started backpacking we wore boots and our feet were always hot, sweaty, and tired at the end of each day. Then we tried out trail running shoes, or “trail runners”, and found ourselves with much happier feet! Let us know if you’ve made the switch too!

The real answer is Rothco jungle boots. If your grandpa can sit around a rice patty in Vietnam with 80lbs of gear and a loaded rifle for half a week in them, you can hike with them.
The wider the bottom gives better balance and less rolling
I know it is not important but those trail running shoes are so ugly.
Im looking for some trail runners or hiking shoes to replace my hiking boots, they take forever to dry. My only thing is, im looking for something that arnt so loud. I just want some more neutral, earth tone colors.
I wore hiking boots when I hiked the AT years ago, I was always worried about getting them wet. There were blessedly few water crossings that didn’t have a dry path. With trail runners being so light would it be beneficial to carry a second pair that way you could always walk with dry shoes?
