Thx a lot for translating to Celsius!
I do not have this bag, but I sleep outdoors below zero with no heat source other than my metabolism. I live in Alaska. I have a Polar Ranger (Thermarest?) and a Marmot bag , Col, -20 which is comfy at 20 F in a tent with clothing and gloves. I slept in a single layer tent for a few Novembers, in snow in Alaska, for a charity/ I have Raynauds and lost all my fingerprints due to extreme previous frostbite from high altitude mountain climbing. I’m always warm except arms and hands. They freeze SOLID. I M LUCKY TO HAVE HANDS. Bring chemical handwarmwrs, get a longer bag and put hand warmers in your boots and wrap in a small trash bag at the inside foot of your sleeping bag. I always get a long sleeping bag despite being short. Need toes. Learned my lessons with fingers and mountain climbing with Raynaud;’s .
this might sound sad but my 80 year old home doesnt have central heating, my feet and biceps are very cold and my bed gets cold somehow. i just want a decent one to sleep in bed with. i use to have one i slept with but the zipper broke and i got rid of it, i miss it. its so cold in my room i dont need to put my bottles of water in the refrigerator i can just leave it next to my lava lamps and after coming in my room for the day i get nice cold water. now imagine that at 10 where the tempature drops and gets worst the more it gets late. at lease when i would ball up in my sleeping bag no oxygen would get through so it felt like i was a chimpmunk or ground hog underground being comforted in a nest or burrow or something. only bright side is when i plug in the warm up heater in my room at lease it get warm enough to not see my breath anymore.
I have an ongoing experience with that ozark trail bag..I’ve been using it for 2 years..got it on a flash sale for $30. I’ve combined it with the ozark trail self inflating mat that does not do well under temperatures of 30 degrees. I’ve winter camped here in Maryland and this month of February 2026 was has been cold 🥶. I slept in that bag 3 nights with the temperature at 2am was -6 with the windchill. I had on clothes..no boots and a hoodie jacket. I was amazingly comfortably warm all night. At 6’3 255 pounds it was tight but manageable. I will add the zippers in extreme temps stick often. Go slow on the zipper in and out and you’ll be fine. My tent is an ozark trail a frame tent 🏕️ 2024 edition with no added insulation $40.. best bang for the buck that took the 11 inches in Bwi like a champ and has never leaked. Overall for those on a minimalist budget like myself I say get it.
Pros- Good price ..comfortable at subzero temps surprisingly..decent cushion still after 2years.
Cons- Zippers can be fickle ..heavier weight..tighter fit for taller muscular guys.
Thank you for your comparison of these two and all the hard work you do ✌🏾
